20120310 Again, why not?

Never a great fan of  lo bok until this dish.

I used a peeler for each thin strip
instead of slicing them.

Came out long and soft.
It went so well with
the ground pork and diced potato.

I can have more lo bok
next time for a not so filling
dinner instead of pasta, rice or bread.

20120310 Something New

The green stuff is a new vegetable I found in the market today.
When asked about how it is cooked,
the lady was kind enough to
slice them for me with the instruction
to cook them with mushrooms.
I bought another one to take this photo with.

This is it,
parboiled and then sauteed with mushroom
and garlic in olive oil.
Tastes like mustard stalk,
bitter.

20120307 Precious Gift

My version of talong relleno
(eggplant omelette)
Over long distance call,
asked my sis how it is made.
I opted for the plain eggplant filling in the omelette
hoping to be reminded of my Mom's home cooked meals.

Nothing conspicuous with the outward appearance
but this variety is fibrous.
The stringy part is what I recalled of it.

I'll do the same thing with the second piece for son to try later tonight.
Hubby and I had finished  the one in the uppermost photo.
Actually, he just took a bite.
Knowing him, he would say:
"It means more to you."

For son, I shall fry half of it and make a salad of the other half.
We can  tell if he got my penchant for food
if he can tell the difference.
 It is not only fragrant,
but  sweet and juicy as well.

Thank you so much
Aleta, Socky and Willy.

20120304 Loafing Around

Bade a quarter of a loaf bread in the ref
 goodbye lest it staled.
Sliced the bread crust , diced the bread
baked in oven till crisp and brown.

Remember my home made Choco Banana Jam ?
Into it, dipped the sticks,
with it, coated the cubes.

With this handy bottle of jam at hand,
who is afraid of loafing around?

Oh, and this one too
Choco Banana Milkshake
Several spoonfuls of the jam
plus milk.

20120303 Shades of Green

Put these frozen parboiled chicken pieces into the pot,
Added a few pieces ginger and lots of garlic,
then
when it is partially cooked,
added an American cucumber.
The broccoli rabe were added
 right before serving time.
Quick and easy meal for a lazy Saturday.

20120302 Choco Banana/Blueberry Jam

My home made Jam
A bottle of Chocolate Banana Jam
and Choco Banana Blueberry Jelly.
The angel beside them is to tell you how heavenly they are!

Can you tell which is which from their color?
Hmmm, It should be fully packed with no spaces
but don't worry,
the whole thing will be gone in a week's time.

I am one banana short and
the sugar's all I have at home.
I don't know how it would matter
so just kept going.
Also realized that the chocolate is sweetened
and the bottles one too many
but no big deal.

Did you notice that there are no blueberries in the photo?
Well, there happened to be a lot more chocolate mixture left
sticking on the sides of the pan
so I added some water
and blueberries to it,
let it boil and filled another empty bottle.

Next time I'll  be making my own
Mayonnaise.
